WALA Pounamu

This art work is mixed media. It represents our team ‘Pounamu.’ Pounamu is a precious greenstone that is valued by Māori. When it is polished and shaped it is a beautiful ornament and tool.

As Ruahine ROCKERS our learning is polished and refined until we are valued citizens both at school and in the community. The different shapes represent different strengths and values.

Koru: growth and new beginnings.

Hei Matau (fish hook): strength, protection and catching good luck.

Toki (adze): strength, control, determination. 

Materials: wool, laminating pouches, crayon, pastel, dried grass, shells.
