Creating a mural to tell our story
Congratulations to Room 8 who designed and painted this mural to show what they think Ruahine School is about.
4 houses- from left to right; Whariti with the tower, Matanginui (as a pencil), Rokai and Takapari. The koru in Rokai represents the river and the Maori heritage of the area. Please note the cumulus clouds and the blueish sky, whoever said we don't have fine weather in Dannevirke!!! There are sheep and cows, sports equipment, rocks (in house colours) a music stave and a wire fence. The Ruahine shield takes centre place and our motto is on the book 'the best I can do the best I can be.' The word 'together' is also on the book as we all make up the school community. The boys insisted the cricket wickets be put smack bang in the middle and of course there are fields of lush green pasture. The road features, as do maths symbols, as they are part of our learning journey and all of us arrive via Maharahara Road. Students love the notion of being a kiwi (especially in Rugby world Cup year) and have memories of Rakete the kiwi, so he forms part of the landscape. A special delight incorporated in the picture is the hand print of every school member, creating the kiwi feathers. What a cool idea! The school values are represented in the word 'ROCKERS.' The values we strive to exemplify are resilience, open to learning, collaboration, kindness, enthusiasm, respect and self-managing. Our rural, vibrant and exciting school is well represented in this mural. Tino Pai e Rawa.
