WALA Peas
Jayden Robson and Mila have been reading about how to grow peas and they have shared their knowledge with the class. Walter kindly made a climbing frame for the garden and we were able to plant our own peas! Watch this space for updates as our peas grow.
WALA 3-D Shapes
To help build our understanding of 3-D shapes we have been building them in class. The first day we used marshmallows as the vertices and toothpicks as the edges. The second day we used blue tack as the vertices and kebab sticks as the edges. Check out our creations below!

Week 6
In the past week we were being taught by some experts about hockey. They taught us how to dribble and pass. Here are some photos of us.
Come and test your strength at hockey!
We also planted in the QEII. All in all it was fun.

WALA Silver Ferns and what they mean to us
The Silver Fern is on the All Blacks shirt.
By Preston
To me the Silver Fern means netball players. My favourite is
Maria Tutaia.
By Ella
To me, the Silver Fern means the All Blacks shirt and the native
silver fern bush.
By Ben
To me the Silver Fern makes me think of our flag
By Lauren
To me the silver ferns are the New Zealand netball team.

Silver Ferns
This week we made some silver fern art. We looked at a fern and we sketched it.
We took some photos here they are.

WALA floating and sinking
The inquiry topic this term is floating and sinking. We have been doing all sorts of investigations into why some objects float and others sink. The following is snapshot of what we have done so far, and there is plenty more to come!
We have done scientific investigations to look at the factors that affect an objects ability to float (buoyancy).
| Ella Davis |
We have learnt about why helium balloons float, and we made balloon art.
With Mrs Dillon we are learning about what bubbles are and why they float. We have watched a YouTube clip about bubbles and some of us even got to blow bubbles. We are now going to write about bubbles, read poetry about bubbles, and make bubble art. We will soon be bubble experts!
Collaborative Activities With Room 3
At the end of last term we did a BP technology challenge with Room 3. We had to work collaboratively to create the longest AND strongest bridge. Miss Bourke and Mrs Senior used a 500 gram weight to test our bridges. Kate, Sam and Connor made the winning bridge. We look forward to doing more of these activities this term!

Here is some of the learning we have done recently!
WALA France. We explored french art and came across Joan Miro. Using the internet, we found information out about Miro and his art. Although Miro was not born in France, he was inspired by French artists and spent most of his life there. We used his technique of bold lines and bright colours to create our own art. Most of us chose to do an interpretation of the Eiffel Tower.
In mathematics we have been learning to multiply and divide, as well as explain our answers to problems and actively listen to others people's answers. Here are some pictures of our work...
For writing we have been making reports on Ruahine School. First we took pictures of the different features of the school, then we chose three categories to write about. Here are some pictures of our work while we were brainstorming, and putting ideas into sentences.
