WALA Place Value
This is a question that Room 2 worked through on Thursday. Our challenge is to parents, friends and family members to solve the problem within 30 mins and post your answers.
Mrs Frost will post the answers on Monday and the names of the successful people.
A class at Ruahine School, on average,
consumes 2 boxes of milk a day.
Imagine there are 30 cartons of milk in each
box . 2 x 30 = 60 cartons of milk per day.
Imagine that there are 10 classrooms. 60 x 10 = 600 cartons of milk per week.
Imagine that there are 10 classrooms. 60 x 10 = 600 cartons of milk per week.
Classes have milk every school day.
There are 10 weeks in every term. 600 x 10 = 6000 per term.
There are 4 terms per year. 6000 x 4 = 24,000 cartons per year.
On average, how many cartons of milk will
Ruahine School consume each school week, term and year?
On average, how many cartons of milk will
Ruahine School consume over 10 school years? 24,000 x 10 = 240,000
If there are 5 schools in the Ruahine
district, how much milk will be consumed over a 10 year period? 240,000 x 5 = 1,200,000
There are 100 schools in the Lower North
Island, how much milk will they consume over 1 year, 10 years? 1 school consumes 24,000 cartons per year, then 24,000 x 100 = 2,400,000. Over 10 years 2,400,000 x 10 = 24,000,000
What percentage of the Lower North Island
consumption will Ruahine School be responsible for in a year? 1%
How much milk will Ruahine School consume in a
year if there were 7 classes? 60 x 7 = 420 per week, 420 x 40 weeks = 16,800 per year. (Proof because 3 x 60 = 180, 180 x 40 = 7200. 7200 + 16800 = 24,000).
Well done to the Barrow family who were the first to answer this question correctly. Thank you to all the other parents that helped their kids out with their learning too by sharing their thinking. You guys ROCK!

WALT give a message
Queens Challenge
Victory and the All-Stars Academy
I think that the Queen should recommend this book. Why, because it teaches you a lesson about how your dreams can come true. You can always accomplish your dreams. And you can always feel so happy about what you have accomplished. But only if you never give up on your dreams, and always be Open to Learning, Collaborative, and Enthusiastic about it.Whatever has happened in the past it doesn’t matter because you can still feel good about what your future will hold.
Here’s an example from the book:”Then Tom Avery brought Blaze to Issie. Poor broken abused Blaze. Together, the girl and the horse had helped each other to heal and Issie had found the strength in her heart to love and ride again.Through it all though , she never let go of her love for Mystic.”
